Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Sen. Cris Dush confirmed that approximately $288,717 in unclaimed property was returned to local residents and businesses during an event in Brookville. The event was co-hosted by Sen. Joe Pittman and Rep. Brian Smith.

"This was an incredible event... It’s a great feeling to get almost $300,000 back to its rightful owners in a single day! This is all money that was lost or forgotten, and it doesn’t belong to the state," said Treasurer Garrity.

Sen. Dush expressed the purpose of the event, stating, "The fundamental purpose of hosting this event was to bring the Pennsylvania Treasury to Brookville and reconnect the citizens we serve with any money and other tangible assets that rightfully belong to them."

During the event, 44 residents and business owners were assisted by the Treasury's outreach team in searching for unclaimed property. Notable returns included over $121,000 to an individual resident and more than $9,000 to a local municipality.

Individuals can search for unclaimed property on their own by visiting www.patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property. The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is working to return more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property, with the average claim worth about $1,600.

In the last fiscal year, the department returned almost $274 million in unclaimed property. Sen. Dush and Treasurer Garrity are planning additional unclaimed property events throughout the 25th Senate District.
