Senator Joe Pittman, along with Representatives Abby Major and Donna Oberlander, announced the allocation of over $3.6 million in grants for infrastructure projects in Armstrong County. The funding comprises nearly $2.7 million from Local Share Account (LSA) funds and close to $1 million from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG).
Senator Pittman emphasized the significance of these investments: “Thanks to the collective effort of local and state leaders, our communities will soon be receiving substantial investments for needed infrastructure improvements.” He highlighted that such projects are costly for municipalities, and this state support is crucial for ensuring health, safety, and education access in the region.
Representative Major expressed her support for the projects: “I’m pleased to support these four worthwhile projects in my legislative district. Each address important needs and will benefit the community for years to come.” She noted that addressing stormwater concerns improves water quality, maintaining municipal vehicles is essential, and replacing school windows is necessary as they reach their lifespan.
Representative Oberlander stated: “These funds will greatly benefit our communities by improving infrastructure, ensuring safer environments and enhancing our water systems.” She stressed that investing in these areas strengthens communities and fosters economic growth.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) approved the grants at its October 22 meeting in Harrisburg. Eight projects within Armstrong County received LSA funding. These funds originate from gaming revenues distributed through the CFA under Pennsylvania’s Race Horse Development and Gaming Act.
Additionally, Lenape Technical School was awarded $931,875 from PSFIG to replace windows at its Manor Township location. PSFIG funding comes from Pennsylvania’s General Fund budget to aid public schools with facility improvements.
The CFA was created in 2004 as an independent agency under Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development to manage economic stimulus initiatives.
