More than $900,000 in infrastructure grants have been awarded to Elk County by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), according to an announcement from Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) and Rep. Mike Armanini (R-Clearfield/Elk).
The funding is divided between the Small Water and Sewer (SWS) program and the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF). The SWS program supports projects related to water supply systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm sewers, or flood control. The MTF provides grants aimed at economic development and ensuring safe transportation across Pennsylvania. Both programs are managed by the CFA.
Sen. Dush said, “The Commonwealth Financing Authority’s statewide grant programs are vital tools for local governments as they seek to cost-effectively improve or repair essential transportation or clean water infrastructure. Thanks to this highly competitive financing, taxpayers and those living on fixed incomes will not have to bear the enormous price tag for these critical quality-of-life upgrades benefiting St. Marys’ Municipal Airport, Johnsonburg Borough and surrounding Elk County communities.”
Rep. Armanini added, “I am proud to have worked with local officials and Sen. Dush to deliver this important infrastructure funding to our district. These grants are a significant investment in developing the infrastructure of our community and prioritizing health and safety.”
St. Marys City received an MTF grant exceeding $526,000 for rehabilitation work on the runway at St. Marys’ Municipal Airport.
Several SWS grants were also allocated within Elk County:
– Johnsonburg Municipal Authority was awarded three separate $100,000 grants: one for sewer rehabilitation at the community center on Center Street; another for replacing an asbestos pipe on Center Street; and a third for groundwater well testing and development.
– St. Marys Area Water Authority received a $100,000 grant for purchasing a water meter.
Both state legislators highlighted that these funds support improvements without placing additional financial burden on residents.
