Sen. Joe Pittman, Rep. Jim Struzzi, and Rep. Brian Smith have announced that $2.5 million in state funding has been designated for flood rehabilitation and water projects in Indiana County. The funding was approved through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Flood Mitigation Program, aimed at assisting recovery efforts following last year’s severe storms.
Clymer Borough will receive $300,000 for stream bank cleanup. The Clymer Volunteer Fire Department has been allocated $100,000 for repairs to its fire hall, while Clymer Little League will receive $100,000 for its ball field repairs.
Sen. Pittman expressed gratitude towards local officials, volunteers, and residents for their efforts in rebuilding after the flooding, stating, “I’m pleased to join with my colleagues to announce these grants, which will go a long way to help address the substantial costs associated with recovery efforts.”
Rep. Struzzi highlighted the community’s resilience in the face of recent challenges, noting, “These state grants will help offset the cost to rebuild necessary infrastructure in our community, which is how our state government should work.”
Additionally, a $2 million check from the DCED Keystone Communities Program was presented to the Indiana County Municipal Services Authority. The funds are for the Barr Slope Emergency Waterline Extension Project in Green Township, due to inadequate water production from existing wells. Construction began in January, with Pollard Land Services contracted for the project.
Commenting on the waterline project, Sen. Pittman stated, “This funding will go a long way to help provide reliable service within the region.” Rep. Smith expressed relief that residents “will once again have access to a reliable source of water.”
