Senator Joe Pittman, along with Representatives Abby Major and Josh Bashline, announced that Armstrong County will receive $1.75 million in Multimodal Transportation Funding. This funding is designated for a major paving project aimed at enhancing economic development and improving the transportation infrastructure in the area. The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved this investment on February 24, 2025.

The county’s request for assistance focuses on the Multi-Municipal Paving Project, which targets road improvements across several municipalities including North Apollo Borough, Applewold Borough, Bradys Bend Township, Gilpin Township, Bethel Township, and Washington Township.

Senator Pittman emphasized the project’s significance: “The Armstrong County Multi-Municipal Paving Project is an extensive undertaking which aims to significantly improve the quality and safety of local roadways, benefiting both area residents and visitors alike.” He noted that by addressing deteriorating pavement conditions, the project will enhance driving experiences and reduce vehicle wear.

Representative Major highlighted the impact of weather on roads: “Roads in our area receive a lot of wear and tear, especially from the weather. I’m pleased this project will be completed as it will create a smoother ride that prevents damage to vehicles.”

Representative Bashline expressed gratitude for recognizing the project’s importance: “This significant investment to bolster vehicular safety and protection in our communities,” he said. Improving road conditions will ensure residents can travel anywhere they need to go without hesitation.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund aims to promote economic development while ensuring safe transportation systems for commonwealth residents. Grants from this fund can be used for developing or enhancing transportation assets within existing communities.
