Cameron County has received a significant grant aimed at revitalizing its recreation center in Emporium. This announcement was made by Sen. Cris Dush and Rep. Martin Causer, both representing areas including Cameron County.
The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority has awarded the county $266,534 through its Multi-Purpose Facilities Grant Program. The funds are designated for the renovation of the recreation center into a modern multi-use facility accessible to local residents.
Sen. Cris Dush emphasized the importance of digital connectivity for rural communities like Cameron County, stating that bridging the digital divide is crucial for families, schools, and local industries. “Securing this critical funding is an absolute must for keeping affordable and reliable digital broadband expansion projects moving forward,” he said.
Rep. Martin Causer highlighted how the project could serve as a central hub for those lacking home broadband access, calling it “a worthwhile investment in the community.”
The Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program provides $45 million in competitive grants to support community anchor institutions and local government units in improving public facilities. These projects aim to enhance work, education, and health monitoring capabilities within their respective communities.
