Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman has expressed optimism about the economic development prospects following the announcement of a new data center at the former Homer City Generating Station site in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. This development marks a significant investment in the region’s future.

Pittman stated, “Demolition of the former Homer City Generating Station last month marked the end of an era.” He described the new data center as “truly historic and incredibly exciting,” highlighting its importance with a $10 billion capital investment. The project is expected to bring 10,000 construction jobs and create 1,000 permanent jobs at the site, representing the largest capital investment in Pennsylvania’s history.

The regional impact of this development extends beyond just Indiana County. “This development is great news not just for Indiana County, but quite frankly for our entire region and our commonwealth,” Pittman noted. He also reflected on the region’s historical significance in electricity production, acknowledging the transitions it has undergone and the resulting impact on local communities and labor employees.

Pittman concluded with pride in representing a community poised to host this future economic driver: “I am very proud to represent the community that is going to host such a tremendous economic engine for generations to come.”
