State Senators Joe Pittman and Cris Dush, along with Representative Brian Smith, have announced a significant financial investment for Jefferson County. The officials helped secure over $3 million in grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority for various projects throughout the county.
Smith expressed his satisfaction about the collaboration, stating, “I’m proud to have worked with Sen. Pittman and Sen. Dush to bring this money back to our area.” He emphasized that the projects funded by these grants would enhance safety, accessibility, and even tourism within the region.
Senator Pittman highlighted the importance of the state support, saying, “Thanks to the collective effort of local and state leaders, our communities will soon be receiving substantial investments for needed infrastructure improvements.” He noted the costly nature of such projects for municipalities and the critical role of state funding in addressing these needs.
Senator Dush added, “With so many hard-working families struggling with ever-rising costs and inflation, I am pleased to have played a role in securing this highly competitive funding for the citizens I serve in Jefferson County.” He pointed out that the grants are vital for improving safety and life quality for residents, alleviating the economic burden of crucial infrastructure upgrades.
The funds include Public School Facility Improvement grants, such as $247,500 for the Brockway Area School District’s high school roofing repairs and boiler replacement. Local Share Account funding supports municipalities with various projects, including $345,000 for Big Run Borough road repaving, a $60,000 new ladder truck for Brockway Borough, and $816,845 for constructing a 911 tower in Young Township.
Act 71 of 2004 facilitates the distribution of LSA gaming revenues through the CFA to aid public interest projects within Pennsylvania. The Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program disburses funds for eligible facility developments in public school districts and technical schools.
