Senator Cris Dush, Representative Stephanie Borowicz, Representative Mike Armanini, and other state lawmakers will host a news conference at the state Capitol to honor Dr. Jim Sweetland for his actions during an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

On July 13, 2024, Dr. Sweetland, a retired emergency room physician from Treasure Lake, PA, was present at a presidential campaign rally at the Butler County Fairgrounds when shots were fired into the crowd. Upon hearing a woman cry for help, Sweetland ran to assist an injured man and performed CPR and chest compressions until two Pennsylvania State Police troopers arrived.

The injured man was Corey Comperatore, a volunteer firefighter from Sarver, PA. Comperatore suffered a fatal head wound while shielding his family from bullets intended for Trump.

The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at noon in the Ryan Building Atrium at the state Capitol Complex in Harrisburg.
