Pennsylvania Senate leaders have provided an update on the progress of the 2025-26 state budget. Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman, and Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Scott Martin released a joint statement addressing their ongoing efforts.

The leaders emphasized their commitment to supporting families and taxpayers as they work towards finalizing the budget. “Standing up for families and taxpayers remains our focus as work to finalize the 2025-26 state budget continues to advance,” they stated. They highlighted recent actions taken over the past two weeks to fund key government functions.

The statement also addressed Pennsylvania’s financial challenges, noting a significant structural deficit that requires attention this year. The leaders stressed the importance of aligning revenues with expenditures to avoid future financial crises and potential tax increases. “Pennsylvania is facing a multi-billion-dollar structural deficit that we must address this year to prevent a financial crisis and tax increases in the future,” they said.

Ward, Pittman, and Martin expressed their intent to collaborate with all parties involved in reaching a final agreement on a spending plan that respects taxpayers while fostering growth in Pennsylvania. “We will continue to work with all parties to reach a final agreement on a spending plan that respects taxpayers, while allowing Pennsylvania to grow.”
