State Rep. Brian Smith (R-Jefferson/Indiana) has announced a significant investment of $222.2 million by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) into 31 drinking water and wastewater projects across 22 counties in the Commonwealth.
The funding will support various projects, including new wet wells in Butler County, upgrades to ozonation systems in Blair County, and replacement of service lines and fire hydrants in Cambria County.
“We have a duty to ensure all residents of our Commonwealth, no matter where they live, have access to safe drinking water,” Smith stated. “PENNVEST helps support communities with grants and low-interest loans to make sure we not only retain access to clean water but expand it.”
Executive Director Robert Boos emphasized the importance of these projects: “The approvals for these water quality infrastructure projects are an important component of PENNVEST support for clean water in Pennsylvania. The funding provided by PENNVEST delivers the financial backing necessary for communities to make improvements that ensure potable drinking water, adequate wastewater treatment, and stormwater management facilities to improve and strengthen a community’s quality of life.”
PENNVEST was established in 1988 to fund the design and construction of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater projects across Pennsylvania.
