Senators Wayne Langerholc, Jr., Cris Dush, and Scott Martin have paid tribute to the Penn State students involved in the annual THON fundraiser. This initiative aims to support families dealing with pediatric cancer through both emotional and financial assistance. The funds raised benefit the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.

THON is recognized as the largest student-run philanthropy worldwide, having amassed $236 million since its inception in 1973. The year-long fundraising activities culminate in a 46-hour dance marathon scheduled for February 21-23 at the Bryce Jordan Center. Those interested can view a livestream of this event online.

In 2024 alone, THON successfully raised nearly $17 million. A resolution was introduced by the Senators to declare February 17-23 as “THON Week” in Pennsylvania. This resolution also honors the dedication of approximately 16,500 Penn State student volunteers who collectively contribute over five million hours annually to this cause.

Senator Langerholc remarked on the efforts of these volunteers: “Penn State THON exemplifies the dedication of students, alumni, and supporters united in the fight against pediatric cancer.” He praised their commitment and acknowledged their role in providing hope and relief to affected families.

Senator Dush added his personal perspective: “Personally speaking, I consider THON to be an excellent example of practicing God’s second Commandment: to LOVE our neighbors as ourselves.” He expressed gratitude for seeing thousands of students actively supporting children and families impacted by cancer.

Finally, Senator Martin expressed his pride in those involved with THON: “I am extremely proud and grateful for all the young people supporting THON throughout the year.” He emphasized that their contributions are vital during vulnerable times for these families.
