The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has allocated over $7.7 million in state support for local projects, as announced by Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41) and Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-62). Burrell Township Sewer Authority received a grant of $2,098,110 and a loan of $831,890, while the Borough of Indiana was granted a loan of $4,829,635.
“Clean, safe and reliable water is vital for the well-being of our communities,” said Pittman. “I’m pleased this substantial state support will help so many individuals and families throughout our region. This PENNVEST funding will certainly go a long way to assist with the critical improvements being undertaken, to help protect public health and support infrastructure advancements.”
Struzzi emphasized the importance of infrastructure funding: “Funding necessary infrastructure for our community is a top priority for me as a legislator. The project in Burrell Township will upgrade pump stations to more efficiently and effectively deal with stormwater. The project in the Borough of Indiana is to update and modernize its wastewater treatment plant. I was pleased to support both projects.”
The Burrell Township Sewer Authority’s Construction Wastewater Project involves upgrades at three existing pump stations. Enhancements include new pumps, appurtenances, magnetic flow meters, bypass connections at various locations including Volks pump station and Socialville pump station which will also see the construction of a new wet well and aeration system.
The Borough of Indiana’s Construction Wastewater Project includes constructing a pavilion-type roof structure over the headworks facility and replacing existing grinders with fine bar screen units. The grit collection system will be updated along with various yard piping and utility lines to integrate with the SCADA system.
PENNVEST financing comes from federal funding, prior bond issues by the state, and proceeds from Marcellus Shale Impact Fee legislation under Act 13 of 2012.
