Six Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants totaling $11.35 million have been allocated for projects in Indiana, Jefferson, and Westmoreland Counties. The announcement was made by Senator Joe Pittman, Representative Jim Struzzi, Representative Brian Smith, and Representative Leslie Rossi.
Homer City Redevelopment, LLC in Center Township, Indiana County will receive $5 million for a Pipeline Improvement Project. This project involves the design and construction of natural gas pipeline infrastructure connecting to the Texas Eastern gas pipeline system.
Indiana County Commissioners are awarded $1.75 million to renovate and redevelop several historic buildings in downtown Indiana County. This includes establishing a Welcome Center to enhance economic development services such as tourism.
The YMCA of Indiana County is set to receive $1.75 million for ADA compliance upgrades and the construction of a new wellness center among other renovations aimed at community service enhancement.
Platinum Visual Systems in Green Township will use its $600,000 grant for various improvements at the Dixonville Commons facility including structural repairs and ADA-compliant restrooms.
Senator Pittman emphasized that “Investing in these projects is about helping our communities have the resources they need to thrive,” noting the positive impact on economic development and job creation.
Representative Struzzi remarked on the significance of the $8.5 million funding for his district: “These projects will help the economy and boost accessibility to services.”
Indiana Regional Medical Center will receive $1.25 million to convert a vacant building into a community medical center in Ligonier, Westmoreland County. Rossi stated this funding represents “a transformative opportunity” that addresses immediate needs while promoting long-term growth.
Punxsutawney Area Hospital in Young Township is awarded $1 million for parking lot renovations aimed at improving access for emergency vehicles and visitors.
Representative Smith commented on how this funding would allow businesses to maximize their facilities’ potential: “These upgrades will allow both of these employers to maximize what they do best.”
The RACP is managed by the Office of the Budget for regional improvement projects with significant economic impacts.
