State Rep. Brian Smith announced on April 15 the approval of $284.2 million in funding for 19 drinking water and wastewater projects across Pennsylvania through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).
The investment aims to improve public health and infrastructure in communities throughout the state by supporting new construction and upgrades, including a new wastewater treatment plant in Bedford County, an ultraviolet system replacement in Fayette County, and sewer renovations in Somerset County.
“This investment strengthens the health, resilience and future of communities across our state, ensuring that every resident has access to safe, reliable infrastructure,” Smith said. “We look forward to delivering projects that honor this commitment and create lasting benefits for generations to come.”
Robert Boos, executive director of PENNVEST, said: “The approvals for these water quality infrastructure projects are an important component of PENNVEST support for clean water in Pennsylvania. The funding provided by PENNVEST delivers the financial backing necessary for communities to make improvements that ensure potable drinking water, adequate wastewater treatment, and stormwater management facilities to improve and strengthen a community’s quality of life.”
Smith has served on the PENNVEST board as well as the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee according to his official website. He also held seats on several committees including Liquor Control; Tourism, Recreation and Economic Development; Game and Fisheries; and Transportation according to his official website.
