More than $1.8 million in state grants has been allocated for five infrastructure projects in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. The funding comes from the Multimodal Transportation Fund Program and the PA Small Water and Sewer Program, as approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority on January 20, 2026.
Senator Joe Pittman (R-41), who represents Armstrong, Indiana, Jefferson, and Westmoreland counties and serves as Senate Majority Leader, announced the grants alongside Representatives Abby Major (R-60), Leslie Rossi (R-59), and Jill Cooper (R-55). Pittman is known for supporting job creation, infrastructure upgrades, and responsible resource management in his district according to his official website.
“Road network and water and sewer projects are an essential part of maintaining the stability of our communities, but often come with a high cost,” Pittman said. “I’m pleased to have worked with my colleagues to ensure this state support will be invested locally and can help to assist with necessary improvements. This is a great day, as these projects will improve services to numerous municipalities and residents within our region.”
Representative Abby Major stated: “I’m pleased to partner with Sen. Pittman on these important infrastructure upgrades for our area. Some of the projects will improve roadways to allow for smoother travel, while others will address water treatment and stormwater issues. These are necessary improvements which would exponentially increase in cost if delayed as further deterioration would occur.”
Leslie Rossi added: “By securing these state grants, we are helping communities tackle critical infrastructure needs without placing the full burden on local taxpayers. This funding allows municipalities to make smart, proactive improvements that protect residents and support future development.”
Jill Cooper also commented: “The costs of improving and expanding our infrastructure are always very high, and local governments work hard to invest in these projects as well as meet day-to-day expenditures. These are important investments, and I was thrilled to work with Sens. Kim Ward and Joe Pittman in seeing these projects get prioritized.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants aimed at economic development by supporting transportation systems such as roads, sidewalks, lighting enhancements, pedestrian safety measures, connectivity improvements between transportation assets, and transit-oriented development.
The PA Small Water and Sewer Program supports construction or improvement of water supply systems, sanitary sewers, storm sewers or flood control initiatives.
