More than $5 million in state funding has been allocated to eight projects in Indiana and Jefferson Counties, according to an announcement from Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41), Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-62), and Rep. Brian Smith (R-66). The funds come from the Multimodal Transportation Fund Program and the PA Small Water and Sewer Program, with approval by the Commonwealth Financing Authority on January 20, 2026.

Sen. Pittman stated, “Road network and water and sewer projects are an essential part of maintaining the stability of our communities, but often come with a high cost. I’m pleased to have worked with my colleagues to ensure this state support will be invested locally and can help to assist with necessary improvements. This is a great day, as these projects will improve services to numerous municipalities and residents within our region.”

Rep. Struzzi commented, “I fully support the water and road infrastructure grants awarded by the CFA board. The projects funded include critical sanitation upgrades, pedestrian safety improvements, and road connections. Indiana County is a great place to live and work; these projects will improve the community even further.”

Rep. Smith added, “These grant programs fund projects in two of the most essential facets of our communities: water access and our ability to move around. Having well-maintained roads and sidewalks is especially important in our rural part of the Commonwealth, and everyone needs access to clean water. I’m glad this funding can be put to good use for these crucial projects.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund aims to promote economic development while providing safe transportation systems across Pennsylvania. Grants may be used for developing or improving transportation assets such as streetscapes, lighting, sidewalk enhancements, pedestrian safety measures, connectivity between transport modes, and transit-oriented development.

The PA Small Water and Sewer Program provides financial assistance for constructing or upgrading water supply systems, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, or flood control infrastructure.

Senator Pittman represents Pennsylvania’s 41st Senatorial District—which includes Armstrong, Indiana, Jefferson, and Westmoreland counties—and serves as Senate Majority Leader according to his official website. His priorities include job creation initiatives, infrastructure improvement efforts like those announced in this funding round as detailed online, law enforcement support measures and fiscal accountability. He also promotes equitable policy consideration for both rural areas such as those receiving these grants as well as urban communities according to public information.

Pittman maintains district offices in Indiana County among other locations within his constituency as listed on his website, participates actively in community initiatives and supports responsible energy policies.
