State Representative Brian Smith has announced that over $339,000 in state grants will be allocated to fire and ambulance companies within the 66th Legislative District. These funds aim to support the public safety missions of these essential services.
“We depend so heavily on our firefighters and emergency services workers to keep ourselves and our property safe in emergencies,” Smith stated. “But they can’t do their jobs without the proper funding. I’m glad we were able to secure these grants, and we’ll keep working to make sure our fire and ambulance companies have what they need.”
The funding originates from a grant program established by the Legislature. This program is managed by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). Eligible projects for this funding include construction, renovation, equipment purchase or repair, training, and debt reduction.
All companies that apply and meet the OSFC’s requirements are eligible to receive funding, contingent on filing a grant agreement with the office.
Grants in Indiana County have been allocated to the following:
– Commodore Volunteer Fire Department received $14,815.77,
– Glen Campbell Volunteer Fire Company and Marion Center Volunteer Fire Department each received $12,018.46,
– Plumville District Volunteer Fire Department was granted $13,309.52,
– Rossiter Volunteer Fire Company was also awarded $12,018.46.

– Jefferson County EMS and Lindsey Fire Company received $15,000 and $15,246.13, respectively,
– Remaining funds were allocated among other local fire and EMS services with various allocations.
The consistent drive to secure and distribute these funds highlights the commitment to ensuring operational capability for emergency services in Smith’s district.
