August 15 is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. Originally known as the Natale or Dormitio (“The Falling Asleep”) of Mary, the solemnity came to be celebrated as early as the fifth century in the East and in Rome. Because Mary belongs to Christ, she is the first to share in the mystery of the Resurrection by being assumed, body and soul, into Heaven. In our partner parishes, the Mass schedule is: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church, Monday, August 15, 12 noon; and Saint James Church, Monday, August 15, 7:30 a.m. Because the Holy Day falls on a Monday in 2022, this year the obligation to attend Mass on the Solemnity of the Assumption is lifted.
