Sometimes chaos is created simply because we have too many objects. How many pairs of shoes does each person really need? (Teenage girls may be exempt from this rule.) If your kids’ clothes don’t fit in the drawers, it’s time to give some away. The same is true of spiritual clutter.
Today’s culture is filled with noise. And while cell phones and the Internet are valuable, they also can be distracting and sometimes destructive. As much as possible, turn off the television, tablet, and computer — and silence those cell phones. This can be as simple as imposing a “no technology during dinner” rule. No matter how rushed the day or evening might be, find a few moments to sit together, offer a prayer of thanks for the day and the food, and simply share time with one another; the food, your time, and one another are gifts from God.
