HARRISBURG - State grants totaling nearly $475,000 have been awarded for projects in Eldred, McKean County, and Galeton, Potter County, according to an announcement made by Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) and Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter).
Sen. Dush emphasized the significance of these grants in improving public safety and upgrading outdoor recreational opportunities. He stated, "Improving public safety by way of flood mitigation and upgrading outdoor recreational opportunities for our children are proven pathways for the continued advancement of economic growth and job creation all throughout our region." He also expressed his satisfaction in securing the funding for the citizens he serves in McKean and Potter counties.
Rep. Causer echoed Sen. Dush's sentiments, highlighting the importance of these projects in enhancing the safety and quality of life for residents. He said, "These grants are important investments in the safety and quality of life for our residents. I was pleased to advocate for these projects and bring this money back to our district."
One of the grants, amounting to $250,000, was awarded to Galeton Borough for the addition of a splash pad at John J. Collins Memorial Park. The splash pad will provide an outdoor play area with sprinklers, fountains, nozzles, and other water features, encouraging outdoor recreation for local children and visitors. The facility will be designed to conserve water usage. Furthermore, additional park improvements are planned for the future.
Another grant of $224,400 was awarded to Eldred Borough for its flood levee recertification project. The recertification of the levee by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is crucial for the health and safety of community members, the local school, and business district.
The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority on Tuesday. The funds for Galeton were provided through the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program, while the funds for Eldred were awarded through the Flood Mitigation Program. Both programs are funded by natural gas impact fees authorized under Act 13 of 2012.
