HARRISBURG – Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (R-41) has responded to Governor Shapiro's higher education proposal, emphasizing the importance of affordable higher education options for Pennsylvania families. In a statement, Pittman acknowledged the governor's plan and its intentions but raised concerns about the lack of funding details and the potential impact on taxpayers and local communities.

Pittman highlighted the significant investments made in higher education as part of the 2023-2024 state budget, which aimed to ensure the long-term viability of the state's education systems. He stated, "Ensuring Pennsylvania is an economic leader and dynamic place to live depends a great deal on the strong workforce and jobs within our commonwealth. A key component of helping to foster greater growth requires preserving access to affordable higher education options for families."
