State Rep. Jim Struzzi has expressed his views on Governor Josh Shapiro's energy policy proposal in Pennsylvania. In response to the governor's plan for "a new era of energy leadership in the Commonwealth," Struzzi stated, "I appreciate the need for better energy policy in Pennsylvania, one which supports the industry while growing jobs and our economy."
Struzzi raised concerns about the potential impacts of a cap-and-trade program, labeling it as an additional tax on energy production, manufacturing, and businesses. He suggested an alternative approach, saying, "Cleaner energy production can be achieved by investing in existing energy producers and further helping them meet environmental standards."
While acknowledging Shapiro's support for diverse energy sources, Struzzi emphasized the importance of utilizing Pennsylvania's abundant natural resources to address challenges and reduce energy costs for businesses and families. He also stressed the significance of leveraging existing reliable energy sources that are available around the clock.
Expressing a need for more detailed information on the proposal, Struzzi highlighted the lack of specific legislative explanations accompanying Shapiro's initiatives. He called for a two-way conversation to ensure transparency and collaboration in shaping energy policies.
Struzzi, a co-author of House Bill 195, aims to eliminate the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) regulation and prevent similar proposals without legislative approval. This bill seeks to safeguard Pennsylvania energy consumers and save significant funds in ongoing litigation fees.
