Sen. Joe Pittman, Rep. Abby Major, and Rep. Donna Oberlander have revealed that $2 million in Multimodal Transportation Funding has been allocated for two projects in Armstrong County. The investments aim to boost economic development and enhance local transportation infrastructure in the area.

Pittman expressed his satisfaction with the funding allocation, stating, “I’m proud to have worked with local and state leaders to advocate for this substantial state funding for projects within Armstrong County. These investments will have a positive impact on local residents, as well as help to advance local economic development for many years to come."

One of the projects receiving funding is the Armstrong Terminal Dock Upgrade Project, for which Armstrong Terminal, Inc. is being awarded a $1 million grant. This project involves upgrading a barge dock in Gilpin Township, which will facilitate the efficient distribution of materials in the region. The improvements are expected to increase commercial barge traffic on the Allegheny River, benefiting both commercial operations and recreational boating.

The second project to receive funding is the Armstrong County Paving Project, which will see roads in several townships repaved. Oberlander commented on the importance of these improvements, stating, “This a perfect example of the value of the county working with municipalities to collectively address these needs. Their combined efforts will create efficiencies and cost savings while upgrading critical infrastructure."

Major also expressed her satisfaction with the grants, noting, “I’m pleased to have advocated for these needs in order to address necessary work that will make the Alle-Kiski Valley a better place to live, work and visit."

The grants are part of the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which aims to promote economic development and ensure a safe transportation system for the residents of Pennsylvania. The fund can be used for various transportation projects, including the development, rehabilitation, and enhancement of transportation assets.

The investments are expected to not only improve transportation infrastructure in Armstrong County but also contribute to the overall economic development and prosperity of the region.
