Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41) has expressed concerns regarding the recent prisoner exchange between the United States and Russia, emphasizing that not all detained Americans have been freed. In a statement issued from Indiana, PA, Pittman remarked on the partial success of the agreement brokered by President Biden.
"While the recent release of Americans detained in Russia was certainly good news, the stark truth remains: President Biden’s agreement did not secure freedom for all. It’s a poignant moment for those reunited, but we cannot celebrate while fellow Americans, like Marc Fogel, are still held captive," said Pittman.
Marc Fogel, a Pennsylvanian who has been imprisoned in Russia for three years, was highlighted by Pittman as an example of those left behind. He noted that Fogel's family has persistently sought assistance from federal leaders to secure his return.
"No upstanding American should endure such prolonged separation from their loved ones," Pittman stated. "I implore President Biden and Vice President Harris to champion Marc’s cause during their remaining term in office and bring him home. We must stand together against this grave injustice. My thoughts and prayers are with Marc Fogel and his entire family during this incredibly challenging time."
The statement underscores ongoing concerns about American citizens still detained abroad despite diplomatic efforts.
