Water and sewer line improvements are set to commence in Eldred, as announced by Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) and Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter). Two state grants, amounting to nearly $8.5 million, have been secured for the projects.
Senator Dush emphasized the importance of funding infrastructure projects: "Responsibly funding necessary infrastructure projects must always remain a top priority," he stated. He highlighted that securing this financial assistance is crucial for upgrading clean drinking water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems, which he considers a significant achievement for Eldred residents.
Representative Causer also stressed the importance of these investments: “These investments are vital to upgrading aging infrastructure and ensuring a clean and safe water supply for the residents of this community,” he said. He added that the funding will help reduce costs for consumers.
The borough of Eldred received a grant of $4.67 million to replace approximately 9,650 feet of existing sanitary sewer collection pipe. This project includes replacing the Barden Brook and Shields pump stations, which were last upgraded in 1996 and 2003 respectively.
Additionally, the Eldred Borough Water Authority was awarded $3.79 million to replace around 9,600 feet of existing distribution waterline with polyvinyl chloride waterline. The project also includes replacing twelve fire hydrants.
Both projects will align with PennDOT's paving work on State Route 446 to minimize construction disruptions in the area.
The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) granted these funds at its recent meeting. Since its establishment in 1988, PENNVEST has supported communities by financing various sewer, stormwater, and drinking water initiatives across Pennsylvania.
