Senator Cris Dush and Representative Brian Smith have announced a significant financial award for the Brookville Municipal Authority. The authority will receive $4.15 million to replace 350 lead service lines, with 340 in the Borough of Brookville and ten in Pine Creek Township.
The funding comes from PENNVEST and includes a $2.9 million loan and a $1.2 million grant. The loan carries an interest rate of 1% for the first five years, increasing to 1% for year six through maturity.
Senator Dush stated, "Clean, affordable, and reliable drinking water is among the most fundamental needs of any community." He emphasized that this financial package would help eliminate identified lead service lines, ensuring a non-toxic water supply while maintaining compliance with regulations. Dush also noted that securing this funding would prevent user rates from rising by approximately 115%.
Representative Smith added, "The people of Brookville have a right to safe, clean drinking water," underscoring the project's long-term benefits.
PENNVEST has been supporting communities since 1988 by financing sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania. This funding does not come from the state's General Fund but rather from federal sources, previous state bond issues, and proceeds from Act 13 of 2012 related to the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee.
