Rep. Abby Major has announced that 28 fire and emergency medical services companies in the 60th Legislative District have been awarded nearly $430,000 in grants. These funds are part of the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services grant program, which began in 2000. The program is available to both volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical services, and rescue squads across Pennsylvania.
Major expressed her support for the grant recipients: “Our fire and ambulance service personnel do a yeoman’s job protecting us in times of emergency,” she said. “These grants will help them have the equipment they need to respond to our calls for help. I’m happy to see so many of our emergency responders took advantage of this opportunity.”
The grants can be used for various purposes including construction or repair of facilities, purchase or repair of equipment, debt reduction, and training. However, funding is contingent upon recipients filing their grant agreements with the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
In Armstrong County, several organizations received funds such as Apollo Volunteer Fire Department Hose Company No. 2 with $14,034 and Ford City Hose Company No. 1 Ambulance with $15,000 among others.
Westmoreland County also saw significant allocations including George G. McMurtry Fire Department Vandergrift No. 1 receiving $15,785 and Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 securing $15,000.
The 60th Legislative District encompasses multiple townships and boroughs within Armstrong County and Westmoreland County.
