Senator Cris Dush and Representative Brian Smith have announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority has allocated $300,000 for a transportation project in Jefferson County. The funding will be used for repaving efforts in Reynoldsville Borough, targeting local streets currently in poor condition.
Dush emphasized the challenges faced by rural areas with limited resources for road maintenance. He stated, "I am pleased that Reynoldsville Borough is receiving this much-needed assistance to improve and repave multiple local streets that are in desperate need of attention. This is a wise, far-reaching investment in our infrastructure that will have a positive public safety impact for residents, motorists, and pedestrians."
The grant comes from the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which aims to promote economic development while ensuring safe and reliable transportation systems across the Commonwealth.
Smith highlighted the importance of rural roads despite lower traffic volumes compared to urban areas. He remarked, "While not as many cars may travel our rural roads as those in the cities, I would argue they’re even more important. Many of us live several miles away from the nearest grocery store, school or hospital, so we need those roads to be in good shape. This funding is going to help make sure our communities can stay connected, both literally and figuratively."
