They stated that all individuals seeking or providing care deserve assurance against intentional harm and threats.
A recent event in York, PA highlighted the increasing frequency of violence in healthcare environments. The Consortium expressed concern for those involved, particularly praising the efforts of healthcare workers and peace officers present at the incident. “We want this to cease,” they declared.
The types of violence encountered include verbal assaults and physical harm, which are reportedly on the rise. Such incidents hinder the ability to deliver quality care. While acknowledging that frustrations can arise when individuals are unwell or in need, the Consortium stressed that these feelings do not justify any form of violence.
Healthcare sites and systems remain committed to ensuring access and safe interactions. The Consortium urged community members to refrain from using extreme language, making threats, engaging in unwanted physical contact, bringing weapons into healthcare settings, or participating in intimidation or coercion. They also encouraged people to speak up when witnessing harmful behavior.
