Apollo-Ridge High School recently issued the following announcement.
Dear ARHS Families,
I want to start off by saying thank you to the community for showing such positive support to both myself and the staff since the closing of our school. This is not an ideal situation for any of us. We will be utilizing the technology the students have been given and utilized throughout the year, specifically Microsoft Teams, to distribute and assign work for each course. If you do not have access to the internet, please call my office. 724.478.6000 Ext 1011
The staff is planning on presenting no more than 4 new concepts, from now until the end of the school year. As of right now, we know we are closed indefinitely, however, we are preparing for any possible scenario should schools be closed till the end of the year. We are grading all students on a Pass/Fail basis for the fourth nine weeks.
This will impact all students Grade Point Average consistently, and after speaking with many college admissions counselors it will not affect admissions to a post-secondary school. Many universities have also decided to utilize the Pass/Fail system for this term. Our plan moving forward is one that could very well need some adjustments! We hope that everyone keeps a positive outlook and realizes we are doing the best we can during a unique situation.
We are operating in two-week time periods to allow for reflection and assessment to refine our distance learning procedures. Please keep open lines of communication with your child’s teachers. At this point there has not been a decision made for the remaining activities that are scheduled to occur during May or June including Field Trips, Prom and Graduation.
Our goal for the remaining time for the 2019-2020 school year is to make a positive out of this negative situation. It is certainly the most unique school year I could have possibly imagined but thankfully our students and staff have the ability to communicate through technology and facilitate instruction. “Show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I’ll show you someone who has overcome adversity.”– Lou Holtz
