Brookville Area Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM
Good Morning
I hope that everyone has enjoyed their first week of summer vacation.
I wanted to share a couple of important pieces of information regarding lunches for the summer and the 22-23 school year.
First, I have attached the advertisement for free summer lunches. It is nice to have the building back open for the kids to come together. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to provide drive-through lunches, which is a requirement for the summer feeding program. Every child age 18 and under is free. You are able to purchase an adult lunch for $4.00.
For the fall, 22-23 school year, the government has ended the free breakfast and lunch program. We need to revert back to our process prior to Covid in March 2020. This means that elementary, grades pre-k through 5, will continue to be offered free breakfast and free lunch. This is not true for grades 6-12. Students in grades 6-12 will need to start paying for meals again.
We are begging you to complete the free and reduced lunch application. These applications are released on July 1. I will send it to all of you at the beginning of July. Please take the time necessary to complete the form. If you have difficulties doing so, we can help you. If the number of qualified students is high enough, we can apply for federal funding, allowing all secondary students to eat for free. We just aren't there yet. We desperately want to get free-feeding back. We need your help to do that.
Throughout the summer, I will be sending you periodical updates of importance. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Nix
