HARRISBURG – Representative Abby Major (R-Armstrong/Westmoreland) announced today that she will be hosting two community events next week.

The first event is a free shredding service on Friday, May 17, from 9-11 a.m., at the Allegheny Township Municipal Building, located at 136 Community Building Road, Leechburg. The second event, Coffee and Conversation, will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Apollo Memorial Library, located at 219 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Apollo.

“I have held both of these events previously, and they have proven popular,” said Major. “I encourage you if you have personal documents to please bring them to the shredding event so they can be securely destroyed. This is just one way to prevent identity theft. In addition, if you have a state-related issue or would like to talk about concerns, I look forward to seeing you at the Coffee and Conversation.”

The shredding event will accept all paper and manila folders. However, each household is limited to three bags or boxes and businesses are not permitted to participate. Staples or paper clips do not need to be removed from documents but large binder clips or hardbound covers will not be accepted. Materials more than one-inch thick will need to be broken down prior to being put through the machines. Progressive Workshop will handle off-site shredding of items.

Coffee and Conversation is part of a series of informal events scheduled throughout the year in various locations within the 60th Legislative District. Further information about upcoming events can be found on Major’s website at RepAbbyMajor.com and her Facebook page at Facebook.com/RepAbbyMajor.

The 60th Legislative District includes Bethel, Burrell, Cadogan, East Franklin, Gilpin, Kiskiminetas, Manor, North Buffalo, Parks, South Bend and South Buffalo townships and Apollo, Applewold, Ford City, Ford Cliff, Freeport, Leechburg, Manorville, North Apollo and West Kittanning boroughs in Armstrong County. It also covers Allegheny Township, East Vandergrift, Hyde Park, Vandergrift and West Leechburg boroughs, as well as part of the city of Lower Burrell in Westmoreland County.
