Rep. Abby Major convened a hearing in Ford City to discuss economic recovery and job growth in southwestern Pennsylvania. The meeting aimed to explore ways to enhance job opportunities, workforce development, and economic growth in the region.

"Our discussion centered around what is being done to help our economy thrive and what still needs to be done to ensure our continued growth," said Major. "If we are to turn this ship around and create an atmosphere where job opportunities are abundant and the economy is healthy, we need to rid ourselves of the policies that hinder job creation and instead facilitate job growth."

The hearing featured testimony from local business leaders, including Kurt Lipniskis from the Inn at Lenape Heights, Ryan Bloser of Ryan’s Creek House, Scott McDowell of BelleFlex Technologies, Andy Bradigan of Bradigan’s Inc., and Ryan Sprankle of Sprankle’s Neighborhood Markets. They highlighted issues such as the need for more employees, better partnerships between businesses and educational institutions, and fairer tax policies.

Lipniskis mentioned that while his business is recovering post-pandemic, challenges remain due to rising costs. "The cost of goods has in many cases doubled," he said. "Most privately owned businesses cannot survive with their costs going up 10% to 30%."

Bloser emphasized the importance of reducing government barriers for businesses. "Competition is extremely beneficial to capitalism," he stated. "Pennsylvania creates barriers in two lenses – regulation and taxes."

Major stressed the importance of supporting small businesses as key job generators in the region. "State government must reform the way it operates," she said.

House Majority Policy Committee Chairman Martin Causer also attended the hearing. He acknowledged ongoing recovery efforts but noted that further support is needed for new industries and skills development.

The 60th Legislative District covers several townships across Armstrong, Butler, and Indiana counties.
