Rep. Abby Major has announced that Elizabeth Bruner from Blairsville is one of the recipients of the 2022 Pennsylvania House of Representatives' Scholarship. This scholarship, which is privately funded by individual and corporate donors, is awarded through an independent panel of judges selected by the overseeing foundation.
“It is an honor to have one of two scholarship winners from throughout the entire Commonwealth reside in my legislative district,” said Major. She noted Bruner's academic achievements and extracurricular involvement as key factors in her selection. Major also encouraged high school seniors to apply for next year's scholarship.
Bruner, who was homeschooled through high school, is currently a student at Penn State University's Dubois campus majoring in wildlife technology. She is the daughter of Clark and Connie Bruner.
The scholarship provides four-year financial support to two students each year who are planning to pursue post-secondary education in Pennsylvania. Eligible candidates must be graduating high school seniors residing in Pennsylvania with plans to attend a full-time college, university, or career school within the state. A minimum 3.0 GPA, community commitment, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, and financial need are considered during the selection process.
The 60th Legislative District represented by Major includes several townships and boroughs across Armstrong County, Butler County, and Indiana County until November 30.
