Rep. Abby Major and Sen. Joe Pittman have announced the approval of over $1.7 million in grants by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for projects within Pennsylvania's 60th Legislative District. These Local Share Account grants are aimed at supporting economic development, job training, community improvement, and public interest projects through gaming funds under Act 71 of 2004.
“These projects will make a difference in our communities,” said Major. “Each addresses a critical need in order to protect citizens or provide important services. Thank you to former Rep. Jason Silvis for advocating for some of these projects. Due to delays by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, the money is just being released now.”
“At a time when many families and communities are feeling a strain from inflation, state investments play an even greater role in helping to strengthen our local region,” stated Pittman. “I’m glad to have worked with my fellow elected officials to help secure this funding, which will ensure the advancement of numerous projects for the benefit of area residents.”
The recipients of these grants include Apollo Borough, which will receive $139,005 for purchasing a dump truck and police vehicle; George G. McMurtry Fire Department 1 with $10,000 for pagers; Leechburg Borough with $136,800 for park rehabilitation; Markle Volunteer Fire Department with $15,214 for portable radios; Vandergrift Borough with multiple allocations including $15,000 for a truck with snowplow package and $419,593 for building renovations; Vandergrift Borough Police Department with $2,850 for a license plate reader; and Westmoreland County Municipal Authority receiving $1 million for lead water service line replacement.
The 60th House District encompasses several townships and boroughs across Armstrong County and parts of Westmoreland County. The 41st Senate District includes all of Armstrong and Indiana counties as well as parts of Jefferson and Westmoreland counties.
