State Rep. Abby Major | Pennsylvania 60th Legislative District
Rep. Abby Major has been appointed to three House committees for the 2023-24 Legislative Session, including Housing and Community Development, Liquor Control, and Transportation. As part of her assignments, she will serve as the Republican vice chairman of the Housing and Community Development Committee and secretary of the Transportation Committee.
"I’m eager to continue my service on the Housing and Community Development, and Liquor Control committees this session," Major stated. She emphasized that blight and redevelopment are critical issues in her district, adding, "We must continue to work to help bring our area back to life and make it attractive for both businesses and people." Major also expressed her satisfaction with her appointment to the Transportation Committee, noting that "the condition of many of our roads and bridges needs addressed" while advocating for creative solutions over increasing the gas tax.
The Housing and Community Development Committee reviews legislation impacting cities and towns across Pennsylvania, focusing on housing, urban redevelopment, economic development, land use planning, growth management, infrastructure financing, and essential services like police and fire departments.
The Liquor Control Committee oversees matters related to alcoholic beverage licenses' administration as well as their sale and distribution.
The House Transportation Committee examines vehicle code regulations, mandatory insurance requirements, road rules enforcement, mass transit codes, rail issues, PennDOT planning efforts along with oversight responsibilities concerning the Pennsylvania Turnpike system among other transportation-related topics.
Rep. Major represents the 60th Legislative District which includes several townships such as Bethel Township in Armstrong County alongside boroughs like Apollo Borough within Westmoreland County.
