The Indiana County Municipal Service Authority (ICMSA) has received a $2 million state grant to fund an emergency water interconnection for Barr Slope, Green Township. The announcement was made by Senator Joe Pittman and Representative Brian Smith.
The wells in Barr Slope have been unable to meet the system's demand, prompting the need for this project. Construction of the emergency waterline began on January 8, 2025, with Pollard Land Services handling the contract.
Senator Pittman highlighted the importance of reliable water access: “Access to clean, safe and reliable water is a critical part of ensuring the health of our local community.” He noted that years of neglect had led to system failure and emphasized that ICMSA would now provide professional services.
Representative Smith expressed hope that residents would feel more secure with a backup plan in place: “The people of Barr Slope in Green Township deserve a reliable source of water.”
The project involves extending approximately 2.8 miles of 8-inch water line to connect ICMSA with Green Township Municipal Authority systems. This connection will ensure a steady supply for Barr Slope residents.
Marty Maschak, Executive Director at ICMSA, thanked Senator Pittman and Representative Smith for their advocacy: “Thanks to their commitment and continued strong support for assisting residents, it is possible for us to move forward with this very important project in an extremely quick and timely fashion.”
Funding comes from the Department of Community and Economic Development's Keystone Communities Program.
