State Rep. Abby Major | Pennsylvania 60th Legislative District
Rep. Abby Major, representing Armstrong and Westmoreland counties, has been appointed to three committees in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2023-24 Legislative Session. She will serve on the Housing and Community Development, Liquor Control, and Transportation committees.
Major has been named the Republican vice chairman of the Housing and Community Development Committee and secretary of the Transportation Committee. In her statement, she expressed enthusiasm for continuing her work on these committees: “I’m eager to continue my service on the Housing and Community Development, and Liquor Control committees this session,” Major said. She highlighted blight and redevelopment as key issues for her district that need attention.
The Housing and Community Development Committee focuses on legislation impacting cities and towns in areas such as housing, urban redevelopment, economic development, land use planning, zoning, infrastructure financing, and essential services like police and fire departments.
The Liquor Control Committee deals with matters related to alcoholic beverage licenses' administration and the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages.
The Transportation Committee oversees vehicle code regulations, mandatory insurance requirements, rules of the road, parking enforcement, mass transit codes, rail issues, PennDOT planning, oversight of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, airports, scenic highways, and highway naming.
Rep. Major represents several townships in Armstrong County including Bethel, Burrell, Cadogan among others; as well as parts of Westmoreland County such as Allegheny Township and parts of Lower Burrell city.
