St. Tobias Parish issued the following announcement on May 23.
For many Americans, Memorial Day signifies a three-day weekend and the unofficial kick off to summer. But Memorial Day is much more than that; it’s a time for Americans to collectively reflect on the impact of the lives lost in U.S. wars and to honor all military veterans. It is a national day of mourning. If you plan to celebrate the holiday weekend with a family picnic or barbeque, be sure to include a moment to remember all of our veterans, both past and present. Say a prayer for the men and women in uniform who are overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, as well as for peacekeeping troops around the world. Say another prayer for the families of soldiers you mourn the loss of those who died in service or who deal with the absence deployed on active duty.
