In light of recent social media comments on two separate events, please see Brookville Borough's actions below:
1. War Dogs Funeral Incident:
While driving down Main Street on his way home from work, Chief Markle stopped his vehicle to permit a member of the Group to cross the street in front of him. Chief Markle observed that the War Dogs member was carrying an open bottle of Michelob Ultra. He then drove around the block and met with a small group of War Dog members at the corner of Main and Barnett Street who were heading towards the funeral home and, after expressing his condolences for their fallen member, kindly asked them to pass the word onto the other War Dog members that they were not permitted to have open containers of alcohol on Main Street and if they wish to party to go inside the funeral home. End of incident.
2. Sidewalk Chalk Incident:
Chief Markle, acting as code enforcement officer, met with an adult male member residence on Madison Street. Chief Markle observed many cigarette butts in the area between the street and sidewalk of the residence and also a mattress that was exposed to the elements on the porch of the residence as well as numerous bags of garbage in the rear yard. He issued a warning to the resident and gave him a period of five days to clean up the rear property, and verbally told him to clean up the cigarette butts along the street. The chalk drawings on the sidewalks were never mentioned by Chief Markle and in fact any such artistic behavior by any child in this borough
would be highly encouraged and desired, and would not be held as a violation of any ordinance of the Borough. Officer Markle did not speak with the mother of the child. Any comments by any individual that the incident involved the sidewalk or the chalk drawings on the sidewalk just are not true. If you zoom in on the attached photo of the sidewalk area on the property you can
see the multitude of cigarette butts.
