HARRISBURG – Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (R-41) issued a statement in response to the Commonwealth Court ruling upholding Act 40 of 2023.
"Providing for the safety and security of communities across the commonwealth is paramount to fulfilling our constitutional obligation as elected officials. The lawlessness perpetuated by District Attorney Larry Krasner has been detrimental to the safety of America’s 6th largest city. Thankfully because of Act 40, Krasner’s reckless inaction on crime will no longer negatively impact riders and employees of SEPTA. We are a state of laws, which must be upheld in order to foster greater safety, stability and growth for all residents."
Pittman continued, "With today’s Commonwealth Court ruling upholding Act 40, seven months after becoming law this collaborative effort will finally begin to make a difference with a special prosecutor to oversee crimes occurring on SEPTA within the City of Philadelphia. This robust legislation was sponsored by Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Wayne Langerholc, Jr., received bi-partisan support by the General Assembly, was signed into law by Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro and is supported by SEPTA. I appreciate Attorney General Michelle Henry’s ongoing work to keep Pennsylvanians safe and look forward to swift appointment of the SEPTA Special Prosecutor."
