On February 14, 2025, Penn Highlands Healthcare at Home in St. Marys honored Cindy DeNoon, a hospice nurse, with the first Lisa Isadore Hospice Caregiver of the Year Award. This award commemorates Lisa Isadore, who received hospice care for two and a half days before her passing. Cindy was called by the Isadore family with questions and spent six hours at their home to support them during that time.
Cheryl Mitchell, Director of Penn Highlands Healthcare at Home, commented on the nature of hospice work: "Hospice care is a special calling." She emphasized the team's commitment to providing comprehensive support.
The award was established in collaboration with Lisa's husband, Mike Isadore, who suggested it be presented on Valentine's Day to coincide with Lisa's birthday. He also contributed to designing the award—a locally made glass heart.
During the presentation ceremony, Sher Sheets, Hospice Spiritual Counselor at Penn Highlands Healthcare at Home, remarked on the significance of hospice work: "The work of direct care hospice is truly sacred."
Cindy has been serving as a hospice nurse for over 17 years and is known for her compassionate approach. Her colleagues describe her as having a "non-judgmental presence."
